EHV-1 Case Confirmed In Kansas

TOPEKA, Kan. – The Kansas Department of Agriculture Animal Health Commissioner Dr. Bill Brown today reports that a horse in northeast Kansas has been confirmed positive with a wild type of a non-neurotropic case of Equine Herpes Virus (EHV-1). The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) wants to remind the public to have their animals vaccinated against rabies by a veterinarian. “We have a significantly higher number of confirmed rabid animals this year”, said KDHE State Public Health Veterinarian Dr. Ingrid Garrison. West Nile virus confirmed in Jefferson County

A mosquito in Jefferson County, Nebraska recently tested positive for West Nile Virus.  This was the first mosquito to test positive this year for West Nile in the five county PHS District which includes Gage and Jefferson Counties.
