Bern Man Killed in Industrial Accident
Ronald Lee Hastings of Bern was the victim of an industrial accident Tuesday morning at the Fairview Mills plant in Hiawatha. Hiawatha Police Chief John Defore reports that Hastings was working with a piece of machinery when he became entangled with it. Hastings was reported dead at the scene of the accident by authorities. Onaga Passes Bond Issue to Build A New Hospital
A bond issue for a new hospital in Onaga passed in the General Election last Tuesday, with 79% of the voters wanting to pass the issue. $17.59 million in tax-exempt general obligations bonds will be used with hospital cash reserves to construct a new facility and make renovations to the existing facility in Onaga, which was built in 1957.
