Firemen responded to Beatrice Scrap Processing, in the 300 block of Market Street Monday morning around 9 a.m., after a cutting torch had apparently ignited leaking fuel. Several explosions were reported, with thick smoke downtown as firemen battled the blaze most of the morning. Over twenty car bodies were burned. 44-year-old John Hintz of Wymore plead no contest Thursday morning in Gage County District Court to a charge of felony child abuse. Diller-Odell High School was evacuated for two and a half hours on Monday morning after a note was discovered making an unspecified threat to the building. A 15 and 17 year old were arrested on Wednesday for multiple vehicle thefts including a Mercedes sedan found in the Chautauqua Park duck pond Tuesday morning. The Beatrice Daily Sun reported three individuals were arrested in Beatrice early Saturday morning for various drug offenses.
