Arts Cooperative Benefit Set for January 29

Marshall and Washington County Sheriff’s Report Few Problems Related to Weather

Marshall County Sheriff’s Department reported that they responded to several vehicles in the ditch and minor vehicle incidents but had no injuries reported during the first major snow event of the year.  Marysville Police also reported that they did not have any accidents involving injuries. Waterville Barn Destroyed by Fire

Fire destroyed a large horse barn north of Waterville midday Monday.  Waterville and Blue Rapids Fire Departments responded to the David Smerchek farm located at 422 Temple Road.  A large horse barn was completely engulfed destroying thousands of dollars in horse tack and related equipment.  The barn was a total loss and one horse did have to be euthanized due ... Unemployment Rises!

Unemployment rose during the month November in all but one Kansas County.  Kansas Department of Labor released the unemployment figures Friday.  Atchison County was the only county to see a decrease from 8.3 percent down to 8.0 percent.
