EHV-1 Case Confirmed In Kansas

TOPEKA, Kan. – The Kansas Department of Agriculture Animal Health Commissioner Dr. Bill Brown today reports that a horse in northeast Kansas has been confirmed positive with a wild type of a non-neurotropic case of Equine Herpes Virus (EHV-1). Pony Express Re-ride Rescheduled

The National Pony Express Re-ride has been rescheduled. Jim Swigart, the national president of the Pony Express Riders said the re-enactment was postponed due to the outbreak of a deadly horse virus. The Washington County Fair really gets rolling Wednesday morning, with events all day long. At 8 a.m. is the 4-H horse show with open class foods judging to follow. Waterville Barn Destroyed by Fire

Fire destroyed a large horse barn north of Waterville midday Monday.  Waterville and Blue Rapids Fire Departments responded to the David Smerchek farm located at 422 Temple Road.  A large horse barn was completely engulfed destroying thousands of dollars in horse tack and related equipment.  The barn was a total loss and one horse did have to be euthanized due ...
