Washington County Fire Crews Kept Busy With Pasture, Barn Fires

Recent fire calls in Washington County had the Haddam and Morrowville fire departments respond to pasture fires January 22nd and 23rd. Hanover firemen were called out on the 24th for a controlled burn out of control, and Morrowville had a similar call January 26th. Barnes and Greenleaf departments responded to a barn fire last Monday at 2404 6th Road.

Former Greenleaf School Building To Reopen As Daycare

Recent activities in the Greenleaf community include plans to reopen the former school building as a daycare center. Jesse Uffman of Greenleaf, and Julie Ohlde of Linn purchased the building at auction, and hope to open early 2015. The facility had previously served Washington County Head Start and a preschool. Also in Greenleaf, the city tennis courts were removed, with plans to replace ...

Missing Greenleaf Man Found Deceased

The Washington County Sheriffs Office is reporting this evening that Matthew Peters, who was missing from Greenleaf, was found deceased. The Sheriffs Department reports that they do not suspect any foul play and the investigation into his death continues.

Washington County couple receive maximum penalties

Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt has announced that a Washington County couple has received maximum sentences for child sex crimes.  Troy Jerald Fencil, age 40 of Greenleaf, was sentenced to 218 months in the Kansas Department of Corrections.  He pleaded guilty last month to charges of aggravated criminal sodomy, aggravated indecent liberties, and sexual exploitation of a child.  Virgina Fencil, ...
