Marshall County Fire Departments were busy this past weekend with numerous grass fires and one structure fire. Firefighters battle grass fire in Jefferson County

Jefferson County Firefighters battled a grass fire Tuesday afternoon about 10 miles southeast of Fairbury that burned nearly 80 acres of prairie grass.  The fire was caused by a Rotary Mower as it struck a rock or something that caused a spark.  High winds added to the challenge of putting the fire out. Dry Weather Poses Fire Problems

The dry weather conditions were a factor in a field fire three miles north of Barneston on Tuesday. The cause of the fire is unknown but a member of the fire department said the grass was dry enough a cigarette could have started the fire.
