Car Fire in Beatrice


The Beatrice Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire in downtown Beatrice Friday afternoon about 3 p.m.  near Fifth and Court Street in front of Sunrise Bakery.  A Chevrolet Lumina had caught fire under the hood.  It’s thought the fire was started by an overheated wire.  No one was injured and the car was a total loss. Kansas Man Pleads Not Guilty to Multiple Charges


A Kansas man accused of driving under the influence of alcohol and six other charges pleaded not guilty during arraignment Wednesday morning in Gage County District Court.   Terence J. Two Injured In Head-on Accident


A woman was transported to Beatrice Community Hospital Thursday afternoon after a head-on collision between two cars. Beatrice Alco Will Close


Duckwall-ALCO Stores Inc. announced Friday that it plans to close its ALCO location in Beatrice. Friday the store began marking down prices on many items prior to its closing date, which is anticipated by late August. Exmark Recalls Mowers

Exmark is recalling more than 2,000 riding mowers made at its plant in Beatrice. The company says a part on the Quest 42-inch ZRT riding mowers could fail and cause a crash. No injuries have been reported. The recall covers some mowers made in 2009 and 2010. Read More »

Homestead Trail Nears Completion From Beatrice to Lincoln


The Homestead Corridor biking and hiking trail will soon connect Beatrice to Lincoln.  Only 10 miles of trail between Pickrell and Cortland are incomplete.  The trail runs parallell to U.S. 77, and should be completed this summer.   Beatrice has secured funding for the project. Barnes man arrested in Beatrice Saturday
