Kansas Agricultural Statistics, Cattle & Hay Numbers

Information concerning 2009 statewide hay estimates and 2010 cattle estimates was released this week by Kansas Agricultural Statistics. Kansas alfalfa production totaled 3.66-million tons in 2009 – a 27% increase above 2008 production. The cattle numbers statewide in 2010 are down about 5% from the previous year. CRP General Signup

The Farm Service Agency is reporting that a general signup is anticipated in late summer in the 2010 Conservation Reserve Program. Consequently, producers with expiring CRP contracts may want to apply for the General Signup to determine whether the existing CRP can be re-enrolled. Attempted suicide at Gage county detention center

Public meetings scheduled to discuss Axtell-Sabetha consolidation

Vehicle rollover sends DeWitt man to hospital

On April 25, 2010 at approximately 1836 hours, Beatrice Communications received a report of a one vehicle rollover injury accident.  Michael Hinrichs, 21 of DeWitt was traveling northbound on North Blueridge Drive in a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee.  Hinrichs moved towards the shoulder of the road as he was meeting a southbound vehicle.  Hinrichs subsequently lost control of the vehicle.  The ...
