Derek Nester was born and raised in Blue Rapids, and graduated from Valley Heights High School in May of 2000. He attended Cowley College in Arkansas City and Johnson County Community College in Overland Park studying Journalism & Media Communication. After stops at KFRM and KCLY radio in Clay Center, he joined KNDY in 2002 as a board operator and play by play announcer. Derek is now responsible for the digital content of Dierking Communications, Inc. 6 radio stations. In 2005 Derek joined the staff of KCFX radio in Kansas City as a production assistant for the Kansas City Chiefs Radio Network, which airs on 69 radio stations across 9 Midwest states.

Voter Turnout Higher Than Expected Tuesday


Voter turnout in Tuesday’s General Election was a little higher than normal around the area.  Marshall and Nemaha County both reported that voter turnout was 67-68%, about average, while Washington and Gage County both reported a little higher than normal, with Washington County reporting 71% voter turnout and Gage County with 68%. 3 Rivers To Close Area Offices By December 31st


3 Rivers Inc, a non-profit organization headquartered in Wamego will close it’s offices in Seneca, Clay Center, Manhattan, and Topeka by December 31st. Blue Springs Brawl Sends 2 To Beatrice Hospital


Gage County Sheriff’s Deputies along with Wymore and Beatrice Rescue workers were called to a 5 person brawl in Blue Springs early Sunday morning. Ambulances transported 23 year old Holly Mick of Wymore and 23 year old Adrian Hourigan of Axtell to Beatrice Community Hospital for injuries sustained from the fight. KDOT To Close US Highway 77 Today For Old Bridge Implosion


The Kansas Department of Transportation will close the new US-77 Big Blue River Bridge at Blue Rapids for approximately 20 minutes at 2:00 p.m. today as crews implode the old US-77 Big Blue River Bridge structure. Olsburg Resident Killed In Car/Pedestrian Accident On K-16


Wesley Esping, 62, of Olsburg was struck by a car and killed in an accident Tuesday evening on Highway K-16 a half mile east of Olsburg in Pottawatomie County.
