Marysville, KS – Kash Patrick Brown, a student at the University of Kansas School of Nursing, is the recipient of the Henry W. Hoppenstedt Nursing Scholarship from Community Memorial Healthcare. The scholarship amount is $2,000. Brown is a 2009 graduate of Frankfort High School and is the son of Patrick Brown and Stacy Brown of Frankfort, KS.
Brown will be honored at a noon luncheon on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at Community Memorial Healthcare.
“My interest in the healthcare field started at a young age,” said Brown. “My mother is a nurse and she was my inspiration to pursue a career in nursing.” He added, “I would eventually like to work in the Marshall County area.”
The scholarship program is made possible through the Henry W. Hoppenstedt Trust and was created in 2006 to advance nursing and nursing education. Hoppenstedt, born and raised near Herkimer, spent his life farming and raising livestock. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. A patient of Community Memorial Healthcare, Hoppenstedt was especially fond of nursing staff members who cared for him during his stays at the hospital.
“Awarding the Scholarship reflects Hoppenstedt’s high regard for our nurses and is an important way in which Community Memorial Healthcare can address today’s nursing shortage and assist those individuals like Brown who are dedicating their careers to the nursing profession,” said Curtis R. Hawkinson, hospital administrator.
