KDOT To Maintain US 77 Traffic During Swede Creek Bridge Replacement

The Kansas Department of Transportation has advised Marshall County that traffic will be maintained during construction of the Swede Creek Bridge replacement a mile north of the county line. In response to local concerns with a traffic detour that would have taken drivers more than thirty miles out of their way, KDOT has instead opted to replace the structure one lane at a time, with traffic directed during construction with temporary signals. Area residents had raised concern that increased traffic avoiding an official detour would deteriorate county roads, and commissioners had petitioned for an alternative.
