The 3rd Czech Festival sponsored by the Blue Rapids Historical Society will be held Saturday, April 26 from 9:00-5:00 at the Community Center and the Museum.
Museum co-curators, Nancy Nolte and Pat Osborne, have loaded this year’s Festival with educational opportunities.
Starting at 9:00 a.m. at the Museum, #36 Public Square, will be a power point presentation by Jan Wilkes of farm homes in Moravia belonging to local Czech ancestors. At 10:00 Wilkes, an experienced genealogist, will do “Hiding in Plain Sight”. She will show clues she has uncovered locally about family genealogy of Nemeceks, Smerceks, Pisnys, Musils, Osners, Sedivys and others and how to use them for further research.
Glen Lojka and Eva Zurik will be at the museum teaching basic Czech words and translating any family records you have which you have been unable to read.
At 1:00 Steve Parke, also at the museum, will present a power point on “Czech Settlements of NE Kansas.”
We encourage you to bring your children and grandchildren to the Festival to enjoy the sights, sounds and foods of Czech heritage.
