Nemaha County Commissioners met Monday. A preliminary cost estimate for a new fire station at Corning was approved. Kansas Department of Transportation has advised that a bridge replacement project on K-63 north of Seneca is to begin no later than March 1st. Discussion was held concerning the possibility of moving from volunteers to a paid staff ambulance service. No decision was made.
Commissioners denied a request from Brad Lippert, who was recently appointed to a full time position as Nemaha County Counselor, that he be allowed to also serve as Kickapoo Tribe Attorney. It was noted that terms of the county agreement were for Lippert to conclude his private practice. Commissioners will meet again Tuesday, with the courthouse closed Monday in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
