Preliminary work has begun on a wind farm in northeast Marshall County. The $4.5 million project will include 30 turbines, generating 75 megawatts of power. Thirty-two landowners of some 7,300 acres have leased land to the Iowa developer of the Marshall Wind Energy Farm. In lieu of property taxes, which are exempt for ten years by state statute, the developer will pay Marshall County $377,400 during the first year, with $300,000 annual payments the following nine years. A road maintenance agreement was reached, with the county requesting $125,000 in escrow before construction.
