Washington County Commission Meeting – Oct. 21

–These minutes are unofficial until approved by the Washington County Board of Commissioners at their next meeting. Prepared by Denae Dimler, County Clerk.

The Board of County Commission for Washington County met in regular session on Monday, October 21, 2013 in the commission room at the Washington County Courthouse. Members present: Alison Mueller, 1st District Commissioner, Chairman; Gary Ouellette, 3rd District Commissioner; and Denae Dimler, County Clerk. Roger Otott, Vice Chairman, 2nd District Commissioner, was absent.

Next regular meeting will be Monday, October 28, 2013 at 8:30 A.M.

Chairman Mueller called the meeting to order.

Don Alldredge, Janitor, told the Board that the Courthouse boiler has some valves that need to be replaced. The boiler was installed in 1973. The Board told Don to have the boiler repaired. Don also reported on other routine matters

Denae Dimler, County Clerk, reported on various matters. Denae reported that Kimeo Township has not yet submitted their 2012 year-end financial report. Several reminders have been sent to the Township Board. Denae asked the Board to make contact with the township board. Commissioner Ouellette said he would contact Kimeo Township Board.

Commissioner Ouellette made a motion to accept the nomination of Hanover Township Board members to appoint Pat Mueller as Clerk of Hanover Township. Chairman Mueller seconded the motion. Motion passed.

Duane Bruna, Environmental Science Director, reported on routine matters.

Justin Cordry, Sheriff, reported there are 4 Washington County, 1 Marshall County, and 6 Republic County inmates in the jail. Justin informed the Board that all officers now have the new tactical vests and on-person cameras. Justin requested executive session for non-elected personnel. Chairman Mueller made a motion to enter executive session. Commissioner Ouellette seconded the motion. Motion passed. No decision was made.

Justin Dragastin, Kastl Powell, presented information on a policy to protect the County against identity theft.

Ann Hawk, County Treasurer, submitted the Treasurer’s yearly financial reports to the Board. Ann also indicated that a tax sale on delinquent property taxes is pending in the County Attorney’s office.

David Willbrant, Public Works Administrator, presented weekly work report

Chairman Mueller signed a notice of award to Walter Brothers Construction, Inc. notifying them that their bid for reinforced concrete boxes for the County Bridge Project has been accepted in the amount of $47,796.45.

Commissioner Ouellette made a motion to purchase 100 steel sign posts from National Sign Co., Ottawa, KS for $2,625. Chairman Mueller seconded the motion. Motion passed.

The Board broke for lunch at noon and returned at 1:00 p.m. Elizabeth Hiltgen, County Attorney, and Lou Kern, PBC Project Manager/Coordinator, joined the meeting to discuss the groundbreaking ceremony for the Washington County Hospital addition/remodeling project. The next PBC meeting will be October 28th at 1:00 p.m. in the Commissioners room in the Courthouse.
