Washington County Commission Meeting Minutes – Oct. 7

–These minutes are unofficial until approved by the Washington County Board of Commissioners at their next meeting. Prepared by Denae Dimler, County Clerk.

The Board of County Commission for Washington County met in regular session on Monday, October 7, 2013 in the commission room at the Washington County Courthouse. Members present: Alison Mueller, 1st District Commissioner, Chairman; Roger Otott, Vice Chairman, 2nd District Commissioner; Gary Ouellette, 3rd District Commissioner; and Denae Dimler, County Clerk.

Next regular meeting will be Monday, October 14, 2013 at 8:30 A.M.

Chairman Mueller called the meeting to order.

Denae Dimler, County Clerk, discussed various matters that the Clerk’s office is working on. The Board approved and signed official minutes from September 30, 2013.

Justin Cordry, Sheriff, reported there are currently 5 Washington County and 1 Republic County inmates in the jail. A meeting has been arranged for this Thursday with the Gage County, Nebraska, Sheriff’s office to determine whether or not the Washington County facility could house their inmates in the event the Gage County facility is closed. Justin asked permission to search for a Dodge Charger from Kansas Highway Patrol. The Sheriff’s office currently has 3 cars with mileage in excess of 130,000 miles. He would like to get a car now and then look at a SUV in 2014. The Board approved the purchase.

Gloria Moore, Tourism Director, presented the September tourism report.

Duane Bruna, Environmental Science Director, gave a weekly work report.

A Department Head meeting was held to discuss overtime, the use of compensatory time, and time sheet requirements for exempt personnel. An addendum to the Personnel Handbook is forthcoming.

David Willbrant, Public Works Administrator, along with Duane Bruna, discussed the possibility of getting uniforms for Public Works and Environmental Science employees. The Board tabled the discussion while more information is gathered. David contacted Mark Uhlik, Realtor and Auctioneer, to begin work on purchasing right-of-ways near 3 bridges that will be reconstructed with the CDBG Grant.

Commissioner Otott made a motion to award Norfolk Contracting Inc., low bidder, the contract for constructing 6 bridges for the Washington County 2013 County Bridge Replacement Project. Commissioner Ouellette seconded the motion. Motion passed.

The meeting adjourned at 12:00 P.M.
