The following statement was released online by the Washington County Sheriff’s Department regarding an incident at USD 108 Washington County Schools yesterday.
As most of you in the Washington area know already, our agency and USD 108 have taken precautionary measures for today on the school grounds. Right now there is a lot of misinformation being distributed through social media, and understandably parents, students, and school staff are concerned. Today’s measures are in response to an incident that occurred yesterday at the school in which a juvenile subject was consequently taken into custody by us. The school and our agency have taken the necessary action in response to this incident. Starting last night this incident hit social media and unfortunately rumors have begun to surface that are not true. At this time we have no credible threat against any student, staff member or the school in general. However, given the seriousness of the incident and other factors both our agency and the school would rather err on the side of caution for the safety and security of your children which is why certain measures have been taken. We hope this helps in answering some questions. As always your children’s safety is the top priority and we will respond in whatever manner is necessary to ensure that safety.
