The City of Marysville has been awarded a $750,000 grant from the Kansas Department of Transportation toward improving traffic flow, line of sight, and business drive access along a section of US Highway 36 extending east from the old water tower to the former city limits near the Surf Motel. This is the third time the grant has been submitted, with the project slated for 2016. Work would include reducing grade on the hill coming in on 36, a stop light at 20th Street, and improved traffic flow for driveway access for businesses along the route.
Forty applications were received for the grants, which may be funded up to 100%, depending on city size. The Marysville grant was among the largest of eleven approved, and would cover some 95% of construction costs.
