Beatrice Council Approves Tax Levy For Airport Renovation

The Beatrice City Council passed a resolution authorizing an additional tax levy for airport authority bonds. A $5.5 million dollar renovation of the Beatrice Airport is proposed, with 90% funding from the Federal Aviation Administration. Reconstruction is planned for the deteriorating primary runway. The additional levy would amount to up to two cents per $100 of valuation. During discussion before the 5-3 vote for the resolution, council members expressed concern with staff salary cost, specifically citing $79,000 per year for the airport mechanic.
