Washington County Commissioner Minutes 6-3-2013

The Board of Washington County Commission met in regular session on Monday, June 3, 2013 in the commission room at the Washington County Courthouse.  Present:   Alison Mueller, 1st District Commissioner, Chairwoman; Roger Otott, Vice Chairman, 2nd District Commissioner; Gary Ouellette, 3rd District Commissioner; and Denae Dimler, County Clerk.


Next regular meeting will be Monday, June 10, 2013 at 8:30 A.M.


Chairwoman Mueller called the meeting to order.


Janice Kearn, County Health Administrator, presented a 2014 budget request for the Health Department.


Denae Dimler, County Clerk, presented 2014 budget requests for Ann Hawk, Treasurer, and Gloria Moore, Tourism Director.  Denae reported that next week she will be attending the Sanborn Institute which is a professional development program through Wichita State University and is being held in Wichita June 10-14.


A payroll change notice was discarded for Eric Helms who was hired as a seasonal laborer for Public Works but has accepted a position elsewhere.


The Board received thank you notes from the Linn and Washington 5th graders in appreciation for their support of the D.A.R.E. program.


Duane Bruna, Environmental Science Director, was unable to attend the meeting but asked about the deadline for accepting storm damage.  The Board agreed that Friday, June 7th, will be the last day the county landfill will accept storm damage from the storms on May 18th.


Justin Cordry, Sheriff, reported there are currently 13 inmates in the county jail.


Becky Pannbacker, Washington County Senior Citizens Services, asked the Board for additional financial assistance.  The Board decided to advance WCSCS the second half of their yearly distribution in the amount of $25,500.


David Willbrant, Public Works Director, presented weekly work report.  David presented a 2014 budget request for Road and Bridge.  The Board asked David to transfer $32,000 to Highland Township for a Dresser motor grader that was transferred to the county when Highland Township dissolved.  David presented information on charges for work performed in Highland Township so far this year.


A motion was made, seconded, and carried to sign a permit agreement for the use of public right of way for Housley Communications to perform work on telephone service wire at 801 W. North, Hanover.


The meeting adjourned at 12:00 noon.
