Get Real at Frankfort Summerfest on June 15th

Get Real this summer at the 2013 Frankfort Summerfest, on Saturday, June 15th. With this year’s theme based on reality TV, the Summerfest will kickoff on Friday, June 14th, with The Amazing Race, a fun for all ages foot race/scavenger hunt within the city limits. Registration for the race will be held at the Frankfort City Park at 6:30 p.m. First clue cards will be given out at 7 p.m. Cost per team (four person maximum) is $20.

An open house for the new city fire building, 112 East First Street, will also be held that evening from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Also, Beta Epsilon will present the Dr. Seuss’ film, The Lorax, at 2nd Street Bar and Grill, beginning at 7 p.m. Popcorn and drinks will be provided. A 24-hour co-rec softball tournament will also begin on Friday night. The Frankfort Farmers Market will be open on Saturday, June 15th, beginning at 8 a.m. in the city park. A model train display will be held in the building south of the Caffrey Brothers’ building throughout the day and vendor booths will be set up in the park all day. Inflatables will be open for children to play on from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., as well as a petting zoo and a Parents as Teachers play area (adult supervision is required at these activities and they will be closed during the parade).

A Get Real parade, sponsored by Frankfort Janes, will begin at 11 a.m. Line-up and registration for the parade will begin at 10 a.m. at the Frankfort Community Care Home.

The VFW will serve lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the city park. The United Methodist Church will host bingo and the Work to Win 4-H Club will serve brownies and homemade ice cream.

A duck race, sponsored by the Frankfort Ambulance Service, will be held at 1 p.m. on the lazy river at the Frankfort Swimming Pool. Ducks may be purchased for $1 each at the Frankfort City Hall, First National Bank or at the Farmers Market prior to the race. The pool will be open for swimming following the race.

Also held in the afternoon of Summerfest will be a fire hose water fight, at 1:30 p.m. The water fight (four person team maximum) is sponsored by the Frankfort Volunteer Fire Department and will be held on the street east of the ball field.

The Frankfort’s Got Talent Show will begin at 2 p.m. at the city park. All ages are welcome to compete. Judges will award points for overall performance, audience response, stage appearance, originality, and personality.

A pedal tractor pull will be held at 3:30 p.m., followed by the Frankfort Rotary Barbecue which will be serving from 5 to 7 p.m. The Summerfest will conclude with live music featuring the Jared Daniels Band with local band member, Devin Randel.
