By a vote of 5-2, USD 115 Nemaha Central School Board voted Wednesday night to close Baileyville B&B schools at the end of the 2013-2014 school year. Beginning with the 2014-2015 school year, all students will attend school at Nemaha Valley schools in Seneca. Before the vote, Superintendent Darrel Kohlman recommended that the Baileyville facility be used as the district wide junior high, however the board was told that financially, they can not keep the Baileyville school open indefinitely. The district could see a potential savings of more than $500,000 by closing the school. The board approved a memorandum of understanding with Highland Community College, who has expressed interest in using the Baileyville facility as a technical education center.
