A bald eagle was found dead about 5 miles east of Highway 77 near Beatrice in mid February. Federal authorities are investigating the death. It appears the eagle was shot with a rifle.
Bald eagles are protected by federal laws and regulations and a violation is punishable by to a $100,000 fine and prison time. Anyone with any information should contact the Gage County Sheriff’s Office or the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
