Amanda Baynton, sentenced to 15 years in prison for the June 2011 murder of her husband, Derek, has filed a motion seeking to withdraw her plea in the case, citing inadequate counsel by her defense attorney. She pled no contest a year ago to charges of second degree murder and aggravated assault as part of her plea agreement.
District Judge John Weingart has set a hearing date of July 9th.
Weingart also dismissed Baynton’s former public defender, Steve Kraushaar of Marysville and appointed a new attorney, Judd Herbster of Topeka, to represent her.
