8-15 inches of snow are forecast for the region as a huge winter storm moves into our area. Forecasters are calling for the snow to start out mid to late Wednesday afternoon and continue into Thursday afternoon with most of the snow falling overnight Wednesday. A quarter inch of ice or more could also be possible along with gusty winds, causing blowing and drifting of snow.
Marshall County Emergency Management Director, Bill Schwindamin says if needed, shelters will open at various locations throughout Marshall County, including the Helvering Center in Marysville, American Legion in Axtell, church in Beattie, City Hall in Blue Rapids, Waterville and Oketo, and some churches in Frankfort. He said they will open the shelters only if needed.
If you lose power during the storm and find out it’s going to be out for more than 8 hours or so, you may call the emergency management office at 785-562-4550 or the sheriff’s office at 785-562-3141 for assistance.
Schwindamin said to make sure you have plenty of water on hand, a gallon a day per person, non perishable food items, flashlights, extra blankets, and your prescriptions filled if you are running low.
