“Shooting with Dad – Photographs by Scott and Roger Bean”
The Marshall County Arts Cooperative is hosting a photography exhibit at the Lee Dam Center for Fine Art, “Shooting with Dad – Photographs by Scott and Roger Bean.” The exhibit runs through Sunday, February 17, and features the photography of the father and son team, Scott and Roger Bean.
While growing up in central Kansas, Scott developed a love of nature and being outside by hunting and fishing with his dad, Roger. Over the past decade, hunting and fishing trips between Scott and Roger turned into photography outings in Marshall County and across the state. This show contains photographs from both Roger and Scott from around Kansas, reflecting their different styles and their choice of subjects.
Scott’s passion for photography grew from a desire to be outside. “I love to drive the back roads and explore places I’ve never been before while hunting for the right moment to stop and take a photograph,” Scott said. “Being behind the camera helps me to be in the moment and to truly experience what is right in front of me.”
The majority of Scott’s photographs feature his home state, Kansas. “Many people think that Kansas is simply one large, flat wheat field,” he said. “Certainly wheat is important to Kansas and wheat fields hold their own beauty, especially with a gentle breeze blowing across them right before harvest. But that is not everything that Kansas has to offer. Kansas actually has many diverse landscapes across the state. And as for flat, well most of Kansas is not that flat. I’ve now lived in the Flint Hills longer than any other area of Kansas and I’m constantly stunned by the beauty of this area.”
In conjunction with the exhibit the arts cooperative will sponsor “Lunch With the Arts” on Friday, February 15, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. A variety of soups, relishes, breads, and desserts will be served. Cost is $5.00.
