The Board of Nemaha County Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, January 7, 2013 in the Commission Room of the Nemaha County Courthouse. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Mark Wessel leading the flag salute. Present also was Commissioner Tim Burdiek, Commissioner elect Dennis Henry, Road and Bridge/Solid Waste Supervisor Dennis Ronnebaum and Office Manager Janet Linden, and County Clerk Mary Kay Schultejans recording the minutes. Commissioner Gary Scoby was absent from today’s meeting.
Road and Bridge/Solid Waste Report:
Road and Bridge/Solid Waste Supervisor Dennis Ronnebaum advised the board that:
- he has started getting information together to send out for bids for bridge steel. Commissioners will plan to open these bids at their January 28
- th meeting. Dennis stated that he will probably plan to replace eight bridges this year.
Chairman Mark Wessel signed add/abate orders as presented.
The board reviewed the minutes from the December 31, 2012 meeting. Tim Burdiek moved to approve the minutes as presented. Mark Wessel seconded the motion. The motion carried with all voting aye.
The board reviewed vouchers submitted by the different departments that were paid at the end of December. Tim Burdiek moved to approve the pay vouchers and warrants for December 2012 as presented. Mark Wessel seconded the motion. The motion carried with all voting aye.
Mark Wessel moved to appoint Gary Scoby as Chairman of the Nemaha County Board of Commissioners for 2013 and Tim Burdiek as Co-Chairman for 2013. Tim Burdiek seconded the motion. The motion carried with all voting aye.
Sheriff Rich Vernon advised the board that:
- his department had a relatively normal weekend this past weekend.
- they are currently holding eight inmates in the jail.
- the Deputy’s room at the Law Enforcement Center is almost finished being remodeled.
Tim Burdiek moved to hold a fifteen minute executive session until 11:05 am to discuss computer security issues at the courthouse. Mark Wessel seconded the motion. The motion carried with all voting aye. Present for the executive session was the Board of
Commissioners, County Clerk Mary Kay Schultejans, County Appraiser Betty Roeder, and Ann Deters from the Appraiser’s Office. The meeting returned to open session at 11:05 am with no action taken by the board following the executive session.
Sheriff Rich Vernon came back before the board to present to Commissioners the bids he received for a new truck and a new car for the Sheriff’s Department. Nemaha Valley Motors bid $16,500 for a 2013 Dodge Ram 1500 crew cab pickup and $16,500 for a 2013 Dodge Charger. Rick Honeyman Ford bid $19,626 for a 2013 Ford Taurus and $21,761 for a 2013 Ford F150 super crew pickup. The above prices include trade in of a 2006 Jeep Cherokee and a 2009 Dodge Charger. Following discussion, Tim Burdiek moved to approve the purchase of the 2013 Dodge Ram pickup and the 2013 Dodge Charger from Nemaha Valley Motors at a cost of $16,500 for each vehicle. Mark Wessel seconded the motion. The motion carried with all voting aye.
The board reviewed the Nemaha County 2013 Reorganization making changes to the document where necessary.
County Attorney Brad Lippert came before the board. Commissioners had no county business to discuss with Brad at this time.
With no further county business coming before the board, Chairman Mark Wessel adjourned the meeting at 12:10 pm. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held on Monday, January 14, 2013 at 9:00 am at which county officials will be sworn in as they begin the next term of office.
