Ricky Hu, a Marysville fifth grader, won the Marshall County Spelling Bee, held Saturday at the Marysville Elementary School. He misspelled 5 of the 40 words on the written exam. Second Place went to Patrick Linck, a Marysville seventh grader, third place went to Maddy Kuckelmann, an Axtell eighth grader, and fourth place went to Jarrett Gros, a Frankfort sixth grader. Kuckelmann and Gros will represent Marshall County at the State Spelling Bee in Topeka March 2nd. Normally the first and second place winners would compete, however Marysville Elementary did not sign up and pay the the fee for the Scripps National Spelling Bee’s regional competition in Topeka, due to budget cuts.
