The Kansas Department for Children and Families is taking applications thru March 29th for the LIEAP Program, the Low Income Energy Assistance Program. It helps pay winter heating bills for those with disabilities, the elderly, or families with children. The amount of benefits depends on income, the type of dwelling, and the type of heating fuel. Applicants must show that they have paid their energy bill for two of the last three months. Last year, the program paid an average of $520 to more than 53,000 households. Go to srs.ks.gov to apply.
