USD 113 Superintendent Bill Orth told the board members Monday night that the Axtell Building Committee is proposing that necessary repairs be made to the Summerfield School building so that it can continue to be used as a school facility, thus postponing the closure of the Summerfield school, for now.
Last year, the board voted to close the Summerfield school at the end of this school year and have the Pre-Kindergarten thru 4th grade students attend the Axtell facility. However, the building committee has been exploring building options at the Axtell school site and feel that keeping the students in Summerfield for a few more years would be the better option at this point. The committee will continue to look at the Axtell site and revisit the option of closing the Summerfield school in a few years.
