The Marysville City Council voted 5-1 at it’s final meeting of 2012 to purchase 8 new AR-15 rifles and 30 round magazines for the Marysville Police Department.
Following the Newtown, Connecticut school shootings, demand for these guns have gone up and Police Chief Todd Ackerman expected the purchase price to go up drastically, as a result. His original plans were to purchase the rifles late next year, but the funds were available now, at a cost of $5,544 from Windham Weaponry in Windham, Maine. The eight full time staff members will each have one, leaving out the 2 part time employees, which saved the city nearly $1,400.
Other bids were from Good Ole Boys Gun Shop of Marysville for $8,446 and Simmons Gun Specialties of Spring Hill for $7,260.
