Holiday Travel Tips

The Marysville Police Department, and many other police agencies across the state of Kansas and the Kansas Highway Patrol will be participating in the Kansas Thanksgiving Traffic Enforcement Campaign now thru Sunday November 25^th. A grant from the Kansas Department of Transportation will underwrite overtime traffic enforcement that especially targets impaired drivers along with vehicle occupants who are not properly restrained.  The Thanksgiving holiday weekend frequently outranks the other holidays in Kansas in the number of driver impaired crashes.

Before you hit the road this holiday weekend, here are some reminders from the Kansas Highway Patrol.  Check the tread and air pressure on your tires; check the vehicles fluids, exhaust system and other mechanical equipment; stock your vehicle with items that would be beneficial if involved in a crash, like bottled water, blankets, non-perishable food items, first aid kit, and a flashlight, along with extra batteries; Plan your route and let your family know where you might be if you’re involved in a crash or have a break down; Charge your cell phone before you leave; Dress for the weather; and check out your route of travel for road conditions or construction work  by calling 511 or go to kandrive.org.
