Lawsuit filed against the City of Beatrice

A lawsuit against the City of Beatrice has been filed in Gage County District Court for nearly $217,000 by the former owners of the Villa motel.  Ray E. Scott of Endicott, operator of the Villa motel, said it cost him nearly $180,000 in profit and other expenses following the city’s condemnation of the building in 2010.  Scott allegedly says that then City Code Enforcement Officer Dennis Mitchell was able to gain entry into two buildings located at the Villa without permission from Scott, to perform an inspection.  The Villa housed about 45 people at the time of the closing, many of them on Social Security, Medicaid, or Medicare.  It was condemned because of life safety issues, which included obstructed corridors, malfunctioning emergency lighting and alarm systems, and black mold.
