COMMISSION MINUTES, November 5, 2012
The Board of Washington County Commission met in regular session on Monday, November 5, 2012 in the commission room at the Washington County Courthouse. Present: Alison Mueller, 1st District Commissioner, Chairman; Roger Otott, Vice Chairman, 2nd District Commissioner; Gene Helms, 3rd District Commissioner; Elizabeth Hiltgen, County Attorney, and Lou Kern, County Clerk.
Chairman Mueller called the meeting to order.
County offices will be closed on Monday, November 12 for the Veterans’ Day observance.
Next regular meeting will be Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at 8:30 A.M.
The board will serve as the Board of County Canvassers on Thursday, November 15 to canvass the November 6 election results.
Mike McGatlin, representing RFD #4, spoke with the board about an application through the CDBG program to build a new fire house in Palmer. The commission will approve the grant application if needed.
The board approved and signed pay request #1 for the B Street project.
Robin Slattery, RVED#4 agent, gave quarterly report. Applications for the vacant position will open November 10 and remain open for 3 weeks. The new agent will focus on 4-H and community development.
Duane Bruna, Noxious Weed and Solid Waste Director, reported on routine maintenance matters. Duane and 2 employees will attend training on construction and demolition in Salina on Wednesday and Thursday.
Sheriff Bill Dickson presented a citation for exceptional service to Sgt. Corey Riggs and a merit citation to Undersheriff Wesley Weber with thanks to both officers for their service. Sheriff Dickson and Undersheriff Weber will present a merit citation to Detective Kim Kleinsorge in the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s office. The jail currently houses 13 Sedgwick County inmates, 5 Washington County inmates and 1 Marshall County inmate. Sheriff Dickson will meet with the Washington City Council tonight to discuss the county/city law enforcement contract.
Elizabeth Hiltgen, County Attorney, spoke with the board on various matters. Roger Otott moved to adopt Resolution No. 13-12 establishing salaries for newly elected officials. Gene Helms seconded and motion carried.
David Willbrant, Public Works Administrator, gave weekly work report and discussed equipment issues.
