One of the questions on every ballot in the State of Kansas will be dealing with the way watercraft is taxed in Kansas. It’s currently taxed as personal property. A vote for the amendment would allow the Legislature to separately classify and tax watercraft or to exempt watercraft from property taxes and impose another form of tax. A vote against it would not change the way watercraft is taxed. Now, watercraft registered in Kansas are taxed at a rate of 30% of the watercraft’s value multiplied by the county mill levy, which can cause the average watercraft tax rate to be much higher than other states.
