October 23, 2012 Special Unofficial

The Board of Nemaha County Commissioners met in special session on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at 9:00 am in the Commission Room of the Nemaha County Courthouse. Present for the meeting was Chairman Mark Wessel, Commissioner Gary Scoby, Commissioner Tim Burdiek, Trey Springer with ING Financial Partners, County Appraiser Betty Roeder, Noxious Weed/Emergency Preparedness Director Todd Swart, Sheriff Rich Vernon, Sheriff’s Department Secretary Amy Lierz, Register of Deeds Roxann Holthaus, County Attorney Brad Lippert, and County Clerk Mary Kay Schultejans recording the minutes.

Chairman Mark Wessel called the meeting to order at 9:00 am.

Trey Springer with ING Financial Partners explained to the group that she has been talking to Commissioners about setting up a 401a plan in Nemaha County for the county’s contribution each month to each employee’s deferred compensation plan. This plan would allow the county to avoid paying payroll tax on this money.

Ms. Springer pointed out the differences between the deferred compensation plans the county already has through New York Life, Valic, and Nationwide and between the proposed plan through ING. Ms. Springer also explained to the group what the employee’s options would be with the money they already have invested with New York Life, Valic, and Nationwide.

Following discussion, Tim Burdiek moved to adopt Resolution 2012-9 authorizing a 401a plan and a 457b plan with ING Financial Partners to be established in Nemaha County. Gary Scoby seconded the motion. The motion carried with all voting aye. Commissioners signed the resolution as presented.

Chairman Mark Wessel adjourned the meeting at 10:55 am. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held on Monday, October 29, 2012 at 9:00 am.
