MCRHS’s 3rd Annual Trains, Planes and Automobile Show
On September 8, 2012, the Marshall County Railroad Historical Society is planning their 3rd Annual Trains, Planes and Automobile Show in Waterville, Kansas.
The event begins with a pancake breakfast served by the Waterville Lions Club from 7:30 to 10:30.
The show begins with rail rides running all day on the historic Central Branch/Missouri Pacific rails traveling west from Waterville to “Somewhere”. While strolling down the street, guests can enjoy a display of vintage cars, a public exhibit of any wheeled vehicles while reminiscing with the cars’ owners. In the community center, railroad enthusiasts will enjoy a large display of model train layouts, which will attract both young and old. While viewing the model trains, railroaders can visit with, Douglas C. Bush, author of Northern Kansas Division, Missouri Pacific Lines, who will have a book signing in the community center. In addition, a vendor with railroad memorabilia will offer his wares for sale.
From 10 a.m. to noon, all eyes will be looking to the sky for the small airplane fly-in. Planes will fly overhead and land 1 mile east of Waterville on the north side of Highway 77. Come out and view the planes and visit with the pilots.
East of town, airplane enthusiasts will enjoy the model airplane “dogfights” with the Riley County Fliers.
At 11:00 a.m., in the historic Waterville Opera House, visitors will be totally entertained by the Betsy Blaser Jazz Trio, featuring Betsy on her saxophone. A second concert will be at 1:00 p.m. A $5 donation will be appreciated. Food vendors will be available for lunch specials.
The highlight of this year’s show will be an elegant, plated dinner at the historic Weaver Hotel served by the “Harvey Girls”. Dinner guests will enjoy a social hour in the Weaver garden from 4 to 5 prior to dinner being served at 5 p.m.. price Dinner price is $20. Limited seating, so reservations are necessary.
