River Valley Extension District 4-H Team Finishes 2nd in State Livestock Judging Contest

It was another great year for livestock judging in RVED as Team #1 of Wyatt Durst, Andrew Tiemeyer, Jefferson Simmons, Ty Stewart, and Lindsey Dankenbring (as alternate) brought home a 2nd place finish in the State 4-H Livestock Judging Contest, held in conjunction with the Livestock Sweepstakes in Manhattan, KS. The team also received 1st in swine placings, 3rd in sheep placings, 3rd in beef placings, and 3rd in oral reasons scores. Winning second overall qualifies the team to compete at the American Royal in November for a chance at a national title. Only one team from each state is able to enter this contest. The team is also nominated to compete in the Ak-sar-ben Livestock Judging Contest in September if they choose to do so.

Individual awards went to Wyatt Durst for 1st place in swine, 6th place in beef, 7th place in oral reasons, and 7th place overall; Andrew Tiemeyer for 10th place in swine, 2nd place in sheep, and 5th place overall; and Jefferson Simmons for 2nd place in swine.

RVED Livestock Judging Team #2 of Luke Martin, Hunter Johnson, Ben Jensen, and Scuyler Zenger also competed for a respectable finish. In the Livestock Quiz Bowl Competition, RVED team of Brooke Jensen, Casey Jensen, Wyatt Durst, and Andrew Tiemeyer, finished 4th. Livestock Sweepstakes was held August 25-26th this year and consisted of Livestock Judging, Quiz Bowl, Skill-a-thon, and Meats Judging.

Congratulations to all of our RVED Livestock Sweepstakes Team members!
