COMMISSION MINUTES, July 2, 2012
The Board of Washington County Commission met in regular session on Monday, July 2, 2012 in the commission room at the Washington County Courthouse. Present: Alison Mueller, 1st District Commissioner, Chairman;
Roger Otott, Vice Chairman, 2nd District Commissioner; Gene Helms, 3rd District Commissioner, and Lou Kern, County Clerk. Elizabeth Hiltgen, County Attorney, was absent due to trial matters.
Chairman Mueller called the meeting to order.
The next regular meeting is Monday, July 9, 2012 at 8:30 A.M.
County offices will be closed on Wednesday, July 4 for the holiday.
The board approved and Chairman Mueller signed cereal malt beverage for the Chamber of Commerce to sell cereal malt beverages at the Washington County Fair.
The board received notice from the Department of Revenue that the Washington County Appraiser’s office has complied with all requirements for the sales/ratio study for commercial and residential sales. Francine Regan, County Appraiser, presented 2013 budget request.
Alison Leiszler, Leiszler Oil Co. and Ryan Kern and Gene Martin, Washington City Council members, met with the commission to discuss issues with truck traffic on 6th Street and B Street. Alison Leiszler offered $60,000.00 toward re-construction of the streets to allow for semi-trailer traffic if the project can be completed by the end of August. The City Council will discuss the matter this evening. The commission told Ms. Leiszler that every attempt will be made but could not guarantee completion by the end of August. Ms. Leiszler thanked the City and the County for their willingness to cooperate. The board met with Ryan Kern later in the morning and agreed that an Interlocal Agreement will need to be signed and that the bid, if required, should be bid as one project.
Keyna Steinbrock, Three Rivers Independent Living consultant, presented 2013 budget request. Three Rivers provides services for the disabled in a 10 county area.
Gloria Moore, Tourism Director, gave monthly report on activities and events.
Lee Pifer, Washington, visited with the board.
The board acknowledged a letter from J-Six Farms, LP, notifying them of the intention to add two barns to the existing permit in Brantford Township, Section 1, Township 4 South, Range 1 East.
The Department of Agriculture scheduled a meeting in the commission room for August 14 from 10:00 A.M. to noon to review flood plain maps for Washington County. Letters will be sent to city councils and other interested parties.
David Willbrant, Public Works Administrator, gave weekly work report and requested a cleaning allowance for his employees, especially those on the oil crew. No action was taken. The low to moderate income survey for the CDBG project is mostly complete. Snap-Tite plastic lining for culverts will be tried on several smaller culverts. Amended job descriptions for crew chief; equipment operator 1; equipment operator 2 and equipment operator 3 were received by the board.
