Homestead Days are currently underway in Beatrice. Angie Bruna, event coordinator said nearly all the area hotels are full.
This year Homestead Days include a family bike riding event, which will be held Friday, features a trip from Chautauqua Park to Riverside Park and back. An extended trip next Sunday will go from Beatrice to Pickrell and back.
A kid’s adventure race, will be held at Big Indian Recreation Area on June 17, features an obstacle course for youths from 7 to 12 years of age. The two-mile course will have six to eight obstacles for kids to conquer. The course will involve crawling, mud, and climbing. As of Friday 23 children were entered.
Another new event scheduled for Saturday, June 16, is hospital bed races featuring teams of five navigating a course. The competition is open to the first eight teams to register. Three teams have already signed up.
Along with the new events, traditional events including Family Fun Night, Teen Night at the Big Blue Water Park, Main Street’s Ribfest, a fireworks show and the Saturday parade are on the agenda.
As of Friday, more than 100 entries registered for the parade. The maximum number of entries is 120. On Sunday, organizers will have a classic car show at Chautauqua Park. The show has 21 classes, including a “big rig” division for semitrailers to enter the show.
