Gage County Sheriff Deputies arrested a Wymore man at Beatrice Community Hospital early Tuesday after he allegedly stole a car from a Wymore area residence on Sunday evening.
Deputies arrested James L. Ebeling, age 37, of Wymore for theft by unlawful taking and driving under suspension.
The Gage County Sheriff’s office reported a 2004 Buick LeSabre owned by Marlin Kliewer, was taken from Kliewer’s residence near East Spruce Road and U.S. Highway 77 Sunday evening.
According to the report Kliewer saw the vehicle’s headlights turn on and leave the driveway, turning north on the highway. Kliewer pursued the vehicle, flashing his headlights several times until the vehicle came to a stop along the highway. Kliewer told deputies he made contact with the driver of the vehicle, and identified him as Ebeling. Kliewer also told deputies he could smell the odor of alcoholic beverages coming from Ebeling. Kliewer said he gave Ebeling a ride to his home at 621 S. 11th St. in Wymore. Ebeling allegedly told Kliewer he was walking home from Kansas and asked Kliewer not to call the police.
Gage County Deputies attempted to locate Ebeling at his Wymore home but he was not there. They later made contact with Ebeling at Beatrice Community Hospital where they placed him under arrest. Bond was set for Ebeling Tuesday morning at $10,000.
