The Memorial Day weekend ended on a tragic note 1 1/2 miles northwest of Marysville Monday evening as one person was killed in a 3 vehicle accident on US Highway 77. Curtis Hall, age 46, of Live Oak, TX was killed after he drove his 2002 Mitsubishi into the west ditch, reentered the roadway crossing the center line and striking a 2003 Mitsubishi Outlander driven by 21-year old Casey Carpenter of Lincoln, NE. A 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by 20 year old Shelby Friedrichs of Topeka was following Carpenter, striking the vehicle driven by Hall. Hall was southbound, the other 2 vehicles were northbound. Hall’s vehicle came to rest on the roadway, Carpenter’s vehicle came to rest in the east ditch, and Friedrichs vehicle, after rolling over once, came to rest in the southbound lane. A passenger, 23-year old Cory Wienck of Marysville was riding with Friedrichs. According to the report by the Kansas Highway Patrol, Carpenter was flown by helicopter to Bryan LGH West in Lincoln, while Friedrichs and Wienck were not transported. Hall was not wearing a seatbelt, it’s unknown if other’s involved in the accident were wearing their seatbelts. The accident happened at 7:30 Monday evening.
