University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension Tractor Safety/Hazardous Occupations Course will be offered in Beatrice at the Extension Office and on the Gage County Fairgrounds on June 14-15, 2012. The class will be held from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm each day
Federal law prohibits youth under 16 years of age from working on a farm other than their parents’. Certification through the course grants an exemption to the law allowing 14- and 15-year-olds to drive a tractor and to do field work with mechanized equipment. The course includes classroom time and driving and covers all aspects of safe tractor operation. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged by June 7, 2012 by contacting the Extension Office in Beatrice at 402-223-1384. The Course registration is $60, which includes educational materials, testing, supplies, lunches and breaks. For more information, contact the Gage County Extension Office or Sharry Nielsen at (308) 832-0645.
