City of Seneca and Nemaha County Reach Agreement On Emergency Related Items

Chairman Mark Wessel called the meeting to order at 8:00 pm.

 

Chairman Wessel stated that the county is officially rejecting the City of Seneca’s offer of $0.00 for the county to provide dispatch services to the city’s police department. Discussion was held concerning whether the city wanted a set amount, an amount based on population, or an amount based on the number of calls dispatched. Following discussion, Mark Wessel moved to offer the City of Seneca a contract for providing dispatch services at a cost of $43,200.00 per year for a period of ten years. Tim Burdiek seconded the motion. The motion carried with all voting aye. Following discussion, Seneca City Council Members voted to accept this offer from the county.

 

Discussion was then held concerning the city charging the county rent to occupy the EMS Building to house county ambulances and the county charging the city rent to occupy office space and evidence room space at the Law Enforcement Center for their police department. Both entities agreed that they would not charge each other rent. However, following discussion, Seneca City Council Members voted to install a gas and electric meter at the EMS Building and bill the county for these utility costs plus the minimum amounts for sewer and water for a period of ten years. Following discussion, Tim Burdiek moved to accept the City of Seneca’s offer to pay the gas and electric meter bills and the minimum for sewer and water in order to continue to house county ambulances at the EMS Building. Gary Scoby seconded the motion. The motion carried with all voting aye.

 

It was also decided that City Attorney Martin Mishler will prepare the contract for the EMS Building and County Attorney Brad Lippert will prepare the contract for dispatch services.

 

Chairman Mark Wessel adjourned the meeting at 9:25 pm. The
