Beatrice has secured funding for the project. An STP transportation and enhancement grant is funding 80 percent of the project.

The total cost for the trail, which is being finished with a limestone-like surface will be about $500,000.

Eventually, the Homestead Trail will extend along the former railbed to Marysville.  According to Traillink.com the Marysville Blue River Trail will be 8.7 miles in length and extend to the Nebraska border.  Approximately 4 miles of the trail is currently open.  I

n Nebraska the trail from Beatrice through Wymore to the Nebraska Border has not been completed.
