Washington County Board Meeting Minutes

           COMMISSION MINUTES, April 2, 2012         

 

The Board of Washington County Commission met in regular session on Monday, April 2, 2012 in the commission room at the Washington County Courthouse.  Present: Alison Mueller, 1st District Commissioner, Chairman; Roger Otott, 2nd District Commissioner; Gene Helms, 3rd District Commissioner; Elizabeth Hiltgen, County Attorney and Lou Kern, County Clerk.   

 

Chairman Mueller called the meeting to order.

 

The next regular meeting is Monday, April 9, 2012 at 8:30 A.M. 

 

The board approved bills and payroll totaling $247,714.31.

 

Brad Portenier, Bradford Built, asked the commission to consider a tax refund on a new storage building that he is building.  Brad hopes to employ eight to ten new workers.  The board will make a decision next week.

 

Rural Lakes Region, the Local Environmental Protection Program, has asked for yearly funding of $2,000.00.  Gene Helms moved to fund Rural Lakes at $500.00 per quarter as long as the State of Kansas provides funding for the program.  Roger Otott seconded and motion carried.

 

The board spoke with Francine Regan, County Appraiser.

 

Duane Bruna, Noxious Weed and Solid Waste Director, reported on attendance at a recent meeting.  Duane asked that Mel Pralle cut down the pine trees along the west side of the property.

 

Don Alldredge, custodian, asked permission to work in the evening on a portion of the sprinkler system that the board approved.

 

Sheriff Bill Dickson and Undersheriff Wes Weber reported that the jail is currently housing 16 Sedgwick County prisoners and 4 Washington County prisoners.  Other matters were discussed.

 

At 11:00 A.M. six bids were opened for the purchase of corrugated metal pipe.  Present were Gary Montre, Welborn Sales and Bob Dameron, Kahn Culverts, were present.  David is to make his recommendation next week.  Gene Helms moved to sign a lease purchase agreement with Kaw Valley National Bank, Clifton, for the purchase of three motor graders.  Roger Otott seconded and motion carried.  Paradise Hill improvements and equipment issues were discussed.  David updated the board on truss bridges throughout the county.  Purchasing road materials that produce less dust and ditching issues were discussed.
