SCC to hold nursing workshop on Beatrice Campus

Southeast Community College’s Continuing Education Division is sponsoring a nursing workshop later this month on the Beatrice Campus.

The workshop, titled “Beatrice Conference: Pharmacy Issues in Infectious Disease,” is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. April 25 in the Truman Center on SCC’s Beatrice Campus, 4771 W. Scott Road. Cost is $69 per person and includes lunch. Nurses attending the entire workshop will receive 6.0 continuing education units. Other health care professionals are asked to check with their licensing agency to verify that this workshop will count as continuing education in their field.

To register for this workshop, call 402-437-2700 or 800-828-0072.

Workshop speaker is Ally Dering Anderson, RP, who has been a pharmacist since 1986. She has practiced in retail pharmacy, HMO pharmacy, long-term care pharmacy, and state government pharmacy. She is an assistant professor of Community Pharmacy Practice at the University of Nebraska College of Pharmacy. She has presented pharmacy programs locally, nationally and internationally.

Lately, infectious diseases have received a lot of media attention the world over. Nurses are expected to be able to answer questions on a variety of infectious diseases, the vaccination debates and the drugs used. This seminar is designed to help answer those questions in language patients can understand and to instill the confidence to be a true patient advocate.

At the completion of this program each attendee shall be able to:

• Describe new vaccines for human papilloma virus and herpes zoster

• Discuss H1/N1 influenza and evaluate risk

• Value the use of prevention with regard to infectious disease

• Compare and contrast various classes of oral anti-infectives

• Recognize a true allergy vs. a side effect

SCC’s Continuing Education Division is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Nebraska Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center Commission on Accreditation.
