Eleven Marysville High School Band students traveled to Junction City Saturday to participate in the 3, 4, 5, and 6A Regional Solo and Small Ensemble Music Festival. These students prepare a solo or ensemble and perform it for a judge who rates them on music characteristics like tone and expression. The ratings run Superior, Excellent, Average, Fair, and Poor. Superior ratings earn a medal and the chance to participate in the State Solo and Small Ensemble Festival on April 28th.
Adrian Young, a freshman tuba player earned MHS’s only Superior rating. Earning Excellent ratings were Eliza Mooradian, clarinet solo; Joe McNish, oboe solo; Katie Oliver, field drum solo; Natasha Love, clarinet solo; Addie Wassenberg, snare drum solo; and Andrew Frese, multi-tenor drum solo.
The MHS Woodwind Trio with MaKala Busch on flute, Joe McNish on oboe, and Julia Beaman on clarinet earned an Average rating, as did the MHS Flute Trio, consisting of MaKala Busch, Madi Martin, and Anna Grauer. Eliza Mooradian played Marysville’s only string solo on her violin for comments only.
