Nemaha County Board Minutes

UNOFFICIAL MINUTES — These minutes are unofficial until approved by the Board of Commissioners at their next meeting. March 5, 2012 Unofficial The Board of Nemaha County Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, March 5, 2012 in the Commission Room of the Nemaha County Courthouse. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Mark Wessel leading the flag salute. Present also were Commissioners Gary Scoby and Tim Burdiek, Road and Bridge Supervisor Dennis Ronnebaum and Office Manager Janet Linden, and County Clerk Mary Kay Schultejans recording the minutes.

Road and Bridge Report: Road and Bridge Supervisor Dennis Ronnebaum advised the board that:  he has several trucks broke down right now. He stated that the white Mack truck needs a new turbo that will cost approximately $3,500.00 and that a couple of other trucks will need to have the transmission pulled out and worked on.  they are in the process of pulling the sand spreaders off of the trucks.  he recently ordered tires for a trailer out of Corning.  the safety meeting is scheduled for next Thursday, March 15th. 

Office Manager Janet Linden had information for Commissioners concerning a pre-construction conference to be held in Seneca on March 23rd in connection with the Wichman Road overlay.

Dennis stated that they have hauled one load of rock on Wichman Road so far this year.

Caterpillar will be giving tours again this year at their plant in Little Rock, Arkansas. The tours will be held at two different times of the year this year.

Solid Waste Report: Solid Waste Director Doug Jeanneret advised the board that: • the labor for Mark Burdiek to repair the doors at the Recycling Building at the landfill would cost between $800.00 and $1,075.00. Gary Scoby moved to approve the bid from Mark’s Overhead Door Service for the door repair at a total cost not to exceed $4,436.00. Mark Wessel seconded the motion. The motion carried with Gary Scoby and Mark Wessel voting aye and Tim Burdiek abstaining from the vote. • the different dumpsters that were ordered from Waste Equipment out of Tennessee have been delivered. Doug stated that he is satisfied with the condition of the dumpsters. • education of the public concerning restrictions for disposing of agricultural waste will be necessary as the State begins to enforce federal laws previously passed in this area. Doug stated that certain plastic items will no longer be allowed to be burned or buried in the landfill. These items will need to be taken to the Recycling Center where they will be baled and sold.

Jane Sunderland with Nemaha County Community Health Services came before Commissioners to request a signature from the board for a grant application through KDHE. Chairman Mark Wessel signed the application as presented.

Tim Burdiek moved to approve the warrants and pay vouchers submitted for February 2012 as presented. Gary Scoby seconded the motion. The motion carried with all voting aye.

Commissioners have decided to return the 1990 Freightliner truck and trailer that was previously approved for purchase from Wesley Trucking in Havensville. The condition of the truck was not satisfactory to the board.

The board reviewed the minutes from the February 27, 2012 meeting. Tim Burdiek moved to approve the minutes as presented. Gary Scoby seconded the motion. The motion carried with all voting aye.

Sheriff’s Report: Sheriff Rich Vernon and Undersheriff Bob Cross advised the board that: the Sheriff’s Office had an active weekend which included a fatality accident early Sunday morning south of Corning.  one of the new patrol cars has been delivered, and the other should be coming soon.  they are down to holding only five inmates in the jail right now.

County Clerk Mary Kay Schultejans requested to purchase a digital imaging system for the Clerk’s Office. The system would serve as a copier, fax, printer, and scanner. Quotes were presented to Commissioners to review for purchasing and leasing a digital imaging system through Century United. Mark Wessel moved to approve the purchase of a Savin C9130 color digital imaging system from Century United at a cost of $8,150.00. Tim Burdiek seconded the motion. The motion carried with all voting aye.

Commissioners left the meeting room at 11:40 am to eat lunch at the Seneca Nutrition Center and returned at 12:40 pm.

Chairman Mark Wessel signed the Clerk’s Monthly Fees Report for February 2012 as presented. With no further county business coming before the board, Chairman Mark Wessel adjourned the meeting at 1:10 pm. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held on Monday, March 12, 2012 at 9:00 am.
